OJA is a French multi-disciplinary street artist, living in Paris. A graduate in Applied Arts, OJA spent 20 years in advertising, communication and publishing as an artistic director, graphic designer and illustrator. OJA decided to create her identity as a street artist after a trip to Lisbon where she discovered the art of azulejo ceramics. Her first collages, posters and stickers, are visible in the streets of Paris from 2020. Passionate about pop culture, influenced by pop art, the artist creates portraits of iconic celebrities in the form of diverted ex-votos, decorated with symbols and strong messages. OJA positions itself as an observer of collective memory. The personalities represented, real, fictional or historical, reflect current events and the contradictions of the over-mediatized and “over-networked” society which creates, sacralizes and desecrates icons that have become social products in a world obsessed with celebrity. Sensitive to ageism, OJA always depicts its characters at their current age.
