Robert Mathieu:
Sculptor, copper engraver. He is the author of the medallion affixed to the house of Drouard, located at 7, place du Tertre, on June 16, 1929. Victor Perrot, president of Vieux-Montmartre, Roland Dorgelès, General Gouraud, Dr Humbert and Dr Jean Mayoux, mayor of Montmartre since 1926, made, on this occasion, the prefect of the Seine, Edouard Renard, the praise of Drouard and told him the urgency of the measures to be taken to save what remains of Montmartre for which he has lived and died. At that time Robert Mathieu made tourists and learned societies visit the old Montmartre, and was a lecturer for the Petit Parisien and at the T.S.F. Author of illuminations of the Passion of Christ, of which he wrote the text. Designer of the picturesque alleys of the village, he died in June 1939. (© Dictionary of Painters in Montmartre).
