/// Biography of Éric MICHEL ///
Eric Michel was born in Aix-en-Provence. He studied visual arts and music at a very young age using the Martenot method. Initially oriented towards music, he returned to painting and sculpture. After completing higher scientific studies, he initially moved into the field of finance, while simultaneously pursuing his artistic activities. Eric has had numerous exhibitions in Japan where he stayed until 2002 as director of an American bank. In December 2003, he notably participated in the Kawasaki contemporary art biennial. Back in France, he was selected to exhibit at the Salon de Montrouge. In 2006, Eric exhibited in London, New York, Miami, and participated in the edition of Nuit Blanche in Paris. In 2007, his video “Swimming Fluo” was presented at the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art. In 2009, at the invitation of Daniel Moquay, Eric took over the Yves Klein Archives as part of a multimedia installation entitled “Lumière et Immatériel” and a performance around a sound work by Yves Klein. The same year, his installation “Passages de Lumière” was presented in the windows of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nice.
His monumental installation “Les Moulins de Lumière” for the Grands Moulins de Pantin site was inaugurated in March 2011. In 2013, his exhibition “Passeur de Lumière” offered a dialogue with the architecture of Le Corbusier and Xenakis at the convent of La Tourette, and in December 2014 his work “Mono Light” was performed at the Philharmonie de Luxembourg. In 2016, his work “Platonium” in partnership with the CNRS was deployed as part of the Fête des Lumières in Lyon, and in Paris on the occasion of the 2018 edition of the Nuit Blanche at the Cité des Sciences.
