The Flying Dutchman, sometimes referred to in the past as the "Dutch Voltigeur", is the most famous of the ghost ships. This myth has often been used by writers in adventure stories. It is also known by the German name "Der Fliegende Holländer", the latter being the original title of an opera by Richard Wagner.
